After serving for 20 years in the US Navy and another 22 years as a strategy and management consultant, I retired in 2025 and took a woodturning class at the local Woodcraft store in San Antonio. Using locally sourced wood (primarily mountain cedar and live oak), I create unique functional art that is intended to be used, not just displayed. I enjoy exposing the unique woodgrain in each piece, incorporating epoxy resin and mica powder colors to accent the natural beauty of different wood species. I laser engrave my logo and details of each project (wood type, where it was sourced, and the date it was turned), adding custom engraving to make each piece truly one of a kind. I use food safe sealants and finishes to protect the wood and provide a durable surface for serving and cleaning. Occasional use of any cutting board oil will enhance and maintain the finish.
